At Bromsgrove Dental Specialists, we have great empathy for nervous patients and treat them with the utmost dignity and respect they deserve.

We hope it will make you feel optimistic when we tell you that we have great resources for nervous patients, including IV sedation, which can completely turn your fear of the dentist on its head for good.

Our compassionate clinicians and receptionists are warm and welcoming people who have created a safe, relaxing, and welcoming environment in which patients can feel empowered.

We will never judge our patients for avoiding dental treatment in the past or for the origin of their fear. We are motivated to help and care for you and allow you to receive the treatment you need and deserve.

Our Approach to Helping Nervous Patients

If you’re nervous about treatment, we encourage you to take a look at our promises to you:

  • To listen: Helping nervous patients is all about listening. Our longer appointment slots are designed to allow you to explain your anxieties in your own time and ask us questions about how we can help.
  • Slow and steady: If you don’t feel ready on the day of treatment, that’s OK. We can go at your pace throughout the treatment process and stop at any point during a procedure. You will guide us.
  • Offer sedation to help you relax: We believe our patients should have the option of IV (intravenous) sedation. This can provide a mighty helping hand in allowing you to relax fully during treatment.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

We understand that choosing the right dental treatment can come with many questions. To help you feel informed and confident in your care, we’ve answered some of the most commonly asked questions about this treatment. Our friendly team is always here to help if you need further information.

What is IV (intravenous) sedation?

IV (intravenous) sedation is administered into a vein on the back of the hand. It is a conscious type of sedation so you will be awake during your procedure yet oblivious to most of what is happening, and to your anxiety.

What does sedation feel like?

IV (intravenous) sedation deeply relaxes the mind and body, removing feelings of fear and anxiety.

Who is suitable for sedation?

Sedation benefits nervous patients, helping them forget their anxieties whilst under its effects.

In many cases, patients only need sedation once to feel much more confident about attending the dentist in the future.

You may wish to have sedation if you:

  • Are undergoing a long or multifaceted procedure.
  • You have a sensitive gag reflex.
  • You might find it hard to sit still for a prolonged period.

Can I be referred to you for sedation from another dental practice?

Yes. We take referrals for procedures carried out under sedation. We are one of the few practices offering sedation alongside dental procedures.
